A platform team that becomes a ticket queue has failed. The goal is that product engineers can ship a new service on their own, safely, on the first afternoon.
The trap
Platform teams start with good intentions and become a bottleneck: every new service needs a ticket, every environment needs a request, and product teams route around the platform because going around is faster than going through.
The measure of a platform is not how much it standardises. It is how often teams choose it when they have an alternative.
What we build
A golden path: one command, or one merged pull request, that produces a running service with a pipeline, deployment, dashboard and alerts already attached. Not a wiki page describing thirty manual steps.
Self-service ephemeral environments matter more than most teams expect. When a developer can create a full environment for a branch and destroy it afterwards, review gets faster, staging stops being contested, and the platform starts paying for itself in review cycles alone.
Adoption, not mandate
We build the paved road, migrate one willing team, and let the results do the arguing. Anything adopted by decree gets worked around within a quarter — and the workaround becomes the thing you are maintaining two years later.
